Saturday of the Fourth Week of Lent

Today's Mass Readings

Four photos in a collage. The first photo in the top left corner depicts a vintage, black and white image of a husband and wife standing next to one another. The top right photo shows Br. Maxamilian sitting next to his smiling grandmother. The bottom left photo shows St. Benedict's room. The bottom right photo shows Br. Maxamilian smiling with two of his nephews.

Today is a great day in the Benedictine world! Today, our dear Holy Father St. Benedict left this world and went to be with God whom he loved and served! Today, if my dear grandmother lived but one more year, she would have been 100 years young today! Plus, this is a Name Day for my great grandfather and many of his descendants, including my nephew, Bennett! My sister-in-law went to Benedictine College in Atchison, and my brother Paul and his wife Brooke were married on the feast of the translation of St. Benedict’s relics, July 11, 2020!

Today Our Holy Father Benedict, receiving Jesus for the last time, lifted his hands and gave up his spirit in the oratory at Monte Cassino. I was blessed to go to his room back last year and see where the order began. For almost 1500 years now, the Benedictine Order has been going strong with monks all over the world proclaiming the gospel through ora et labora.

It has been a tremendous blessing to be a Benedictine. God, in his mysterious ways, knew at the beginning of time that my family members would be Benedictine. St. Benedict, Patron Saint of monks and my family, pray for us, all of us in the Benedictine world, from monks to Oblates and all who support our mission! I pray that you all have a wonderful rest of your Lenten season and have Easter joy! “Alla Famiglia Benedettina!” “To the Benedictine Family!”
