Saturday of the Second Week of Lent
Today is one of my favorite gospel passages about the rich young man who squandered his father’s inheritance. I would like to quote again from J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings. In the Fellowship of the Ring, Bilbo tells Frodo, “It’s a dangerous business, Frodo, going out of your door. You step into the road, and if you don’t keep your feet, there is no telling where you might be swept off to.” That poor young man went on too many adventures. We can be that rich young man, if we don’t keep our feet, who knows where we would be swept off to.
Jesus remains our cornerstone and our foundation. Let us keep our feet planted on the ground, our rock, our cornerstone, our foundation. May he bring us to everlasting life. I wish you all a blessed Lenten season and a blessed Easter season too.
