Saturday of the Sixth Week in Ordinary Time
At the Steubenville youth conference, high school students gather together to reignite their faith. Most high school students who attend experience what many people call a “Jesus High,” when they are on fire with their faith and filled with the love of Jesus.
On the last day of the conference, one of the speakers brings up the passage of the transfiguration, which is the focus of today’s Gospel. The speaker talks about how at the conference, we are on this mountaintop experience with the Lord, and all we want to do is to stay there for a while. This is like Peter saying, “Let us make three tents.” Jesus tells us that we can’t stay on the mountaintop. We need to go back to the ground and preach what we have been given by Christ. We have been given the Good News, and we as disciples of Christ need to share the Good News. We can do this by living our lives as Christ has called us to live. That is the simplest way to share the Good News we have received from Christ.
