Saturday of the Thirty-second Week in Ordinary Time
Will the Son of Man find faith on earth when He comes again? When you look into your soul in reflection, do you find faith? What does your faith look like? More often than not, we struggle to have faith!
Unshakeable faith in the Lord is difficult in this world because we have no example of how someone can be completely reliable, as the Lord is reliable. If we do not take time to examine how the Lord has always been interceding in our lives, we will not recognize his faithfulness and mercy. In the Gospel, we see how the widow’s actions are those of a woman with true faith.
There is an unjust judge. This character represents the faultiness of those who may be in positions of authority. We should never expect perfection from any person, so why do we expect our leaders to live up to every one of our ideals? The widow recognizes the faults of the judge, yet continues her request, trusting that if she does what she is able, the rest will be done unto her. In the end, she is rewarded her request on account of her faithfulness. She understood what was most likely to happen was that the judge would act unjustly, but that did not change her hope that God would act.
Do I give up and lose hope when I don’t see the work being done in the world that I expect? We cannot base our faith on things of this world because the things of this world continually let us down. Rather, we do our part, we make our requests known, and trust the Father’s will be done!
