Saturday of the Twenty-seventh Week in Ordinary Time

Today's Mass Readings

“Blessed are those who hear the Word of God and observe it.”

Saturdays are dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary in the Liturgical Calendar when no other saint or feast is celebrated. Mary holds the place of honor in the Church as the Theotokos, Mother of God. She is so richly blessed that one cannot overlook her. She holds authority, special authority, as the highest intercessor among all the saints. Authority is a powerful influencing tool. It gets people to move and to act. People are prone to constantly follow authority. The point about Mary is that her authority comes from her humble and beautiful example. She doesn’t command. She invites. She doesn’t chastise. She inspires.

O Theotokos, Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of Christians, pray for us.
