Thursday in the Octave of Easter
Even Jesus gets hungry. Hungry for what, though? In our gospel today, Jesus, out of nowhere, appears before the disciples. They can’t believe that it is him; they think he’s a ghost. Jesus shows them his hands and feet to show he wasn’t. Jesus also asked if they had any food to give him, they did, and they gave it to him. I’d like us to focus on this request from Jesus.
My friends, Jesus asks of something from us every day. And we have a choice whether we are going to immediately fulfill his request like the disciples or ignore it. Jesus requests our sins. Jesus wants repentance, Jesus wants forgiveness. Why? Our sins shackle us to the old, to darkness, and to doubt. Jesus came to free us from imprisonment. He came to turn the old, the dark, and the doubtful to the new, to brightness, to hope. Give to Jesus what he is hungry for. He is Risen! Alleluia!
