Thursday of Holy Week
“I have given you a model to follow, so that as I have done for you, you should also do.” These words of Jesus are profound, for he is calling us to become His presence in the world. We are called to embody Christ and bring his divine love and humility into the world. We do this by showing love for our all we meet, by giving a gentle smile or greeting to those we encounter, by comforting those who are in distress or grieving, by visiting poor and elderly of our parishes. But we must also be willing to receive to love of Christ given to us by our brothers and sisters in this world. We must allow our feet to be washed so that we may receive the inheritance with Christ. Oftentimes, we want to say with Peter, “You will never wash my feet,” because we do not feel worthy to receive the Love given to us and do not we worthy of the call to follow his example. But it is that very fact that we are called that makes us worthy for we are chosen by Jesus to live his Love. It is true that we cannot do this on our own—we are not strong enough. So Jesus, in his merciful love for us, has given us food to give us strength and courage. It is a food that is eternal and brings forth life. Evil trembles at the thought of it for this food is the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of our Beloved Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus gives us his very Body and Blood to receive into our very Bodies and into our souls. This food transforms us, and we enter into a union with Jesus so that we might become Christ’s light in the world. So, let us dash all doubt and evil against the rock of Christ in the Holy Eucharist and go forth into the world to proclaim and live in the true Love of Christ.
