My Joy in You

“I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and your joy may be complete.” (John 15:11)

Jesus speaks of joy—not just any joy, but His joy—offered to us as a gift, a mark of true discipleship, and the fruit of remaining in His love. This is not the fleeting happiness the world offers, but a joy that is borne of faith in Jesus as the Christ, who forgives sins and promises eternal life.

So, amid our usual interactions—with family, friends, coworkers—we are called to witness to this joy: a joy that forgives as we have been forgiven; a joy that serves with cheerfulness; a joy that gives hope to the darkest of times and places.

Of course, this Christian joy has to be authentic. We cannot manufacture this joy; we must ask for and receive this joy. The more we remain in Jesus, the more His joy will become ours.

For the Journey:

O my Jesus, complete my joy. I desire to encounter you in the Scriptures, in prayer, in the Eucharist. Help me to remain in your love and to keep your commandments.
