Thursday of the Second Week in Ordinary Time
In today’s Gospel, we see the great desire of the people to seek out Jesus. They came from far away just to see him and touch him so that they may be healed. At that time, the people and even Jesus—for he was worried about being crushed by the crowd—were limited by humanity. But now, because Jesus has entered into Heaven and has taken his seat at the right hand of God, “Jesus is always able to save those who approach God through him since he lives forever to make intercession for them.” We now have a great High Priest who ministers to our every need and is always eager to intercede for us to our God and loving father.
Through his life, the Son of God entered into and shared in our humanity. In his dying, our humanity descended into death with him. Through his resurrection, our humanity is raised from the dead, which now no longer reigns over us. And by ascending to the Father in Heaven, our humanity ascended with him. This is what gives us the ability to seek Jesus at any moment. Our journey to him is no longer to a distant land; rather, we turn to him within our hearts, where he is seeking us and longing to come to our aid. Are we able to descend into our hearts and seek him, or is this journey too far? Take courage, for he waits for us to make this journey and will be there with open arms when we arrive.
