Thursday of the Second Week of Lent
Jesus says: Listen to Moses and prophets
The people of Jesus’ time were eagerly awaiting the Messiah, the “Anointed One.” From the fall of Adam and Eve, God promised he would send a Savior, and the people throughout the intervening years were always looking, always wondering when it would happen. But they were like most of us who look for something great to happen—the people got distracted by the daily living and struggling, by the political happenings in the nation. It was up to the prophets to keep their hope alive and remind them what God had said and promised would take place. Here we call to mind again the promise that was fulfilled by the Gospels, that this man Jesus was the promised one of old. This man, Jesus, would suffer and die for us to save us from sin and death. Do we believe in his death and resurrection, that he rose and promises that we too will rise with him? This is the Easter promise: if we die with the Lord, we will rise with the Lord.
