Thursday of the Third Week of Advent

Today's Mass Readings

Today is my mother’s birthday! I will not say how old she is, but today in our immediate family, we celebrate the gift of life! She was adopted, and on the day my grandparents were bringing her home from old St. Anthony’s orphanage in Kansas City, my grandmother said to one of the sisters taking care of my mom, “Sister I am pregnant, should I go a head and adopt Debbie?” Without missing a beat, this sister, who knew my grandmother well after having four miscarriages, told her “Bern, you don’t know if this baby is going to survive, go and adopt her!”

That was my grandmother’s annunciation. After adopting my mom, my grandparents had five children on their own. Do you ever have annunciation moments? If so always remember to thank God! What a precious gift! Happy birthday, Mother Dearest!
