Thursday of the Third Week of Lent
“Every kingdom divided against itself will be laid waste.” These words speak to each of us in various ways. It can easily correspond to our nation, our Church, our parishes, and often our homes. It can, however, also refer to our hearts.
We have competing desires and hopes in our personal lives. You may want to serve Christ wholly and then go and gossip about a troubling family member. You may want to be more active in your parish, but that game on TV is so appealing. In these instances, the kingdom of the heart is divided, and if we fail to deal with that division, our hearts fall; our hearts become hard.
What are we to do? Here is where confession is so powerful. Until heaven, our hearts will always be divided, yet, Christ has given us a remedy of not falling away to destruction. When we go to confession, we can admit our wrongs, receive healing and peace, and grow closer to Christ, bringing others with us to that peace.
Heal the divisions of your heart by going to confession this Lent. Receive peace and healing.
