Thursday of the Thirty-fourth Week in Ordinary Time-Thanksgiving

Today's Mass Readings

The word “Eucharist” means “Thanksgiving.” Every time we celebrate the Mass, we are giving thanks to God. As a matter of course, we should enter the celebration with particular things in mind for which we are thankful, but our salvation through Jesus Christ is always at the forefront of that thanksgiving. It is the most precious gift that one can receive: it is eternal, it was given by Almighty God, and the gift itself is our Lord and Savior. Nothing can compare with this.

Therefore, as we gather with friends and family today, giving thanks for the good things we have in our lives, let us be sure to give thanks to God for the gift of His Son. The Father had perfect love for the Son since before the dawn of time, and yet He was willing to let His Son suffer death so that we might live. There is no greater love than to give one’s life for one’s friends.
