Thursday of the Thirty-Second Week in Ordinary Time
In Luke’s Gospel today, Jesus asserts that no one can observe the Kingdom of God, for it is among you. There are many instances in our daily lives where we can become distracted and look where our Lord is not. One way these distractions work is that you “look there or look here” while doing tasks, rather than actively pursuing their completion. This could be a matter of checking a phone notification or looking for the source of some other sound during Mass, meetings, or class. During these moments, we can practice patience when that notification goes off and continue to give our full attention to what is before us by not immediately checking the notification. We can unite that temptation to distraction to the Cross of Christ, and He, in turn, will bestow many graces to help us focus on our day’s tasks or goals.
Do not be hasty and run off in pursuit of the eye-catching thing in your day, but meet it with temperance and patience, and it will help you see just how the Lord is at work in your day and see where He is with you in that distraction.
