Thursday of the Twenty-fifth Week in Ordinary Time
A point comes in everyone’s life where we are forced to consider what we have done. This can be at a time for conversion where we change a bad habit and come closer to God. A time of deep reflection helps us to come to terms with a traumatic event or a deep interior wound. What starts as spiritual darkness can lead to a moment in which we find total clarity about an important step in our lives. God uses these moments as hidden graces to call us to draw closer to His heart.
The prophet Haggai calls the people of Israel to consider their own ways and to come clean before they begin to rebuild the Temple. Herod, the despotic ruler, is made to worry when Jesus’ fame makes him rue over who he is since he had killed John the Baptist. No person can escape or bury their actions, no matter how powerful. We must remember that we are apostolic Christians as Catholics. We are confronted and consoled by Jesus in the Mass. He knows your ways and mine and brings everything to light to guide and save us.
Challenge: The Eucharist is the source and summit of our faith. We believe that the Eucharist points us in the direction God is leading us to. The precious Host is like a compass, pointing you to true north. What is God calling you to do right now in terms of faith? Are you willing to give your own witness to your faith? Will you be willing to lead a retreat or give spiritual direction in your parish? Consider your own ways and what God is calling you to do in order to build up the House of the Lord. Amen
