Thursday of the Twenty-Third Week in Ordinary Time
Today’s gospel reading is about humility and mercy. “Love your enemies and do good to them,
and lend expecting nothing back; then your reward will be great and you will be children of the Most High, for he himself is kind to the ungrateful and the wicked. Be merciful, just as also your Father is merciful.” I said yesterday that the devil hates unity and wants disunity. This reading from the gospel is a perfect first step to bring unity in our lives. Today is also the optional memorial of the Holy name of Mary, and she is the model of humility and the Mother of Mercy. Let us imitate her “fiat,” her YES to God and unity.
