Tuesday of Fifth Week of Easter
In our Alleluia verse today, we read “Christ had to suffer and to rise from the dead and so enter into his glory.” Poor St. Paul was stoned almost to death, but as he said to encourage the apostles, “It is necessary for us to undergo many hardships to enter the Kingdom of God.” If we don’t go through hardships, then what is the point! Jesus was not only fully God but also fully human. He realized that he had to suffer so that we may enter into his glory! Sometimes when we suffer, it feels like the same wounds as Jesus had, and we are nailed to the cross with him to suffer. But he looks at us, and he knows our problems, our pain, our sorrows, and what we are going through, and we look at him on his cross, bloody and beaten, he says, “If you persevere, you will be with me in paradise! Follow my example because I want to see your faith, more precious than gold that is perishable even though tested by fire, may prove to be for praise, glory, and honor” (1 Peter 1:7).
