Tuesday of the Fourteenth Week in Ordinary Time

Today's Mass Readings

Free will is a God-given gift not to be taken lightly.

When his disciples asked Jesus to teach them to pray, he gave them the “Our Father.” There are seven petitions in that prayer, but the one which makes me pause is “Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.” Thy will be done. Do I really mean it? Am I ready for it?

I have had enough experiences of God’s work in my life to want to mean it. I am blessed with being able to pray with a community several times a day, receive Christ sacramentally each day, and be supported in my vocation by persons who are also truly seeking God.

But frequently there are moments when I find myself trying to do things I want to do. The dreams, the physical and spiritual healings, and the other blessings which I have received are “set aside” as I wrestle with God over a decision.

The outcome always leaves a mark. I never want to forget that mark. That mark is added to my other experiences to help me better exercise my free will in the future.
