Tuesday of the Fourth Week in Ordinary Time
“If I but touch his clothes, I shall be cured.” “Lord I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.” The power of touch is something that is very important, I remember a priest telling me, “I have an elderly parishioner who said besides receiving Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament, my favorite part of the Mass is the sign of peace!” The priest asked the lady why this was, and she said “I am all alone, I have no family around, and I live by myself, the sign of peace is the only human contact that I have all week!” That’s a powerful statement!
The power of faith can go a long way, through prayer or through the power of a smile. A touch can do wonders for the soul, just like it did for the woman who suffered hemorrhage. “If I but touch his clothes, I shall be cured.” “Daughter, your faith has saved you. Go in peace and be cured of your affliction.” The Lord Jesus does the same to us at Mass when we receive him by the touch on the hand or on the tongue, he heals us of our infirmities and sins—that is if we have faith. If you have faith the size of a mustard seed, anything is possible with God!
