Tuesday of the Fourth Week in Ordinary Time
“My son Absalom! My son, my son, Absalom! If only I had died instead of you, Absalom, my son, my son!” This cry of mourning from King David moves the heart and speaks of a father’s love for his son. Absalom rebelled against his father, the king, but this betrayal didn’t overshadow David’s fatherly love for him when he heard of his death. In many ways, this is how God our Father is with us. In our sins, we have rebelled against God. In his love, he waits for us to turn back to him. God, our Father, cries out for our return, and he sent his son into the world to become the expiation for our sins. Jesus died on the cross to show us the Love of the Father and the way to eternal life through his divine love and mercy. How will you respond to the Father’s Love? May we hear the cries of our Father and see his love for us in the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross. Let us turn back to him and fall into his loving embrace so that we may be saved.
