Tuesday of the Fourth Week of Easter

Today's Mass Readings

Following the passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus, those who believed that he was the Christ remained in Jerusalem. They gave witness to others of what they had seen and heard, and slowly they formed a faith community, a Church.

There was no real plan to “grow” the Church. However, because these followers of Christ were persecuted in Jerusalem, some chose to leave rather than to stay and fight. They settled in surrounding areas and continued to practice The Way, supported by the Church in Jerusalem.

Who would have thought that the persecution that was meant to kill the Church would result in its growth? Who would have thought that one of its most dangerous persecutors (Saul) would become its biggest promoter (Paul)?

Never, ever, underestimate the Holy Spirit.
