Tuesday of the Second Week of Advent
Today we hear the Lord tell the story of the lost sheep. If one goes astray, will the shepherd not go to find that one? My favorite part of the story is not included—even the angels in heaven rejoice over one repentant sinner than a righteous man who does good deeds.
In our responsorial psalm today, we hear “The Lord our God comes with power.” This reminds me of The Lord of the Rings movie “The Two Towers,” when Gandalf tells Aragon “look to my coming at first light on the fifth day, at dawn look to the East!” Gandalf goes out to look for one person, King Théoden’s nephew, Éomer. When he finds him, Gandalf, with a multitude of Rohirrim, fights the orcs and a battle that seemed impossible to win becomes victorious.
Let’s remember that that one sheep could be the sheep that saves us. God the Father is the Shepherd coming back with reinforcements to save us from death!
