Tuesday of the Second Week of Easter

Today's Mass Readings

In our Alleluia verse today, we hear, “The Son of Man must be lifted up, so that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life.” At his Passion, Christ was lifted on the cross to draw the whole world to himself. At Mass, when the priest elevates the host, Christ present in the Eucharist still wants to draw the whole world to himself.

Sadly, there are so many people who ignore this. People want to see for themselves before they want to do something new, but as Jesus says in the Gospel today, “If I tell you about earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you about heavenly things? No one has gone up to heaven except the one who has come down from heaven, the Son of Man.”

I believe the theme for the week has been trust. Can we let go and let God? Can we trust in Him even more than we have before, as the man’s son who was possessed by demons said in the gospel of Mark, “I do believe, help my unbelief!”
