Why is Jesus so special?
God spoke to Adam and Eve. Noah, Moses, Elijah, and other prophets received messages from God that they conveyed to His people. In fact, there were many persons in the Old Testament whom God especially favored. Others in both the Old and the New Testaments were able to heal the sick through the power of God. The healing acts of Jesus amazed some, it is true, but that alone did not distinguish him.
When St. Paul preached to the citizens of Corinth, they must have asked why Jesus was so special. He replied, God raised Christ from the dead. Furthermore, Jesus ascended into Heaven, thus confirming that our hope is not for this life only (1 Corinthians 15:12-19).
It would not be a bad thing to be more like Noah, Moses, and Elijah. But God sent his only Son to do something the Law and the Prophets could not do: lead people to eternal life. Therefore, we are called Christians.
