Tuesday of the Sixteenth Week in Ordinary Time

Today's Mass Readings

“Who is my mother? Who are my brothers?” In today’s Gospel, Jesus was speaking to the crowds when his mother and brothers appeared, wishing to speak to him. But he does not leave the crowd or stop teaching to visit with them. He rather poses the above question and then answers it by pointing to the disciples and saying, “Here are my mother and my brothers. For whoever does the will of my heavenly Father is my brother, and sister, and mother.” We are all called to be brothers and sisters and mothers in Christ’s family because we are all called to do the will of the heavenly Father. This divine will is the Father calling us into his love and union with him in his heavenly kingdom. And how do we do the will of the heavenly Father? By being disciples of Jesus and following him on the way for he tells us, “I am the way the truth and the life. No one come to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6) Let us have the courage to always follow Jesus on the way into the heavenly kingdom so that we have come into the Father’s divine love.
