Tuesday of the Thirteenth Week in Ordinary Time
Sin Has Consequences
Today we hear from Genesis 19, in the midst of the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. Yet, God is just and rescues Lot and his family. The story is both a warning and a call. It warns of the consequences of unchecked sin and the societal decay it breeds. Yet, it also calls us to intercede for others like Abraham did, desiring to be merciful and compassionate.
Sin matters to God—not because he likes to punish, but because he desires his creation to be holy as he is holy. In New Testament times, this will be made possible by the grace of Jesus Christ.
For the Journey:
Ask yourself: have I confessed my sins to God recently through a priest? Before you go, make a good examination of conscience. Be honest with yourself. Let the priest help you see what you don’t see.
