Tuesday of the Thirtieth Week in Ordinary Time

Today's Mass Readings

When I think about what Heaven might be like, I usually think about all those things that make me happy and all those things that bring me joy. I don’t usually think about things that have made me sad or uncomfortable. Frankly, I would rather avoid those things.

If Heaven is the result of the pursuit of holiness and virtue in this life, and if these can only be developed and refined through relationships, then I need to take a serious look at how I engage with the people, events, and places that God deemed I needed.

As a Christian, it is implied that I look to Christ for His example of how I should live my life. And when I look to Christ, I usually see a Cross. (I know he also shared meals with his friends and that he had great conversations with his apostles, too, but the Cross looms fairly large . . .)

The Catholic life is not either-or, it is both-and. Suffering will happen. Patient endurance and steadfast love will be needed. And the glory in the life to come will far exceed anything we could have imagined.
