Tuesday of the Thirtieth Week in Ordinary Time
The reading today from Ephesians makes some people cringe. It seems so outdated.
Of course, St. Paul was living in a different time and in a different culture. But if the Word of God is timeless, it needs to speak to all times and all places.
The timeless and universal message is choosing to do God’s will.
This is accomplished by choosing to be subordinate to one another and choosing to love one another (i.e., becoming one flesh) out of reverence for Christ.
The only way to glimpse the kingdom of God on earth is to acknowledge the gifts that we have and what other people have. To subordinate our personal desires when that is necessary for the greater good of the body of Christ.
