Tuesday of the Thirty-second Week in Ordinary Time
Speakers of many kinds and on many different occasions seem to like to state things in three’s – one radio show (Garrison Keillor) would end with, “Be well, keep in touch, and do good work.”
Kind of a good wish for the day.
We hear these sometimes in Scripture too – one comes to mind from the Prophet Micah: “Do what is right, love goodness and mercy, walk humbly with your God.”
The Book of Wisdom again speaks clearly about what is always true, and that, even in death, we are in the hand of God. Or rather, God’s hand is upon us to guide us, guard us, strengthen us. We are destined to be with God, thus in the hands of God throughout our days.
What then are we called to do by Jesus? Listen to his words, let those words guide our lives, and allow Jesus to work through us and in us, taking up the way of Jesus: loving God and neighbor; loving others; being forgiving; and walking humbly with God.
This is what is asked of us, what the Lord commands us. And Jesus holds out great hope out to us: “You are my friends, if you do what I command you. I no longer speak of you as slaves. instead, I call you friends, since I have made known to you all that I have heard from the Father.” Let us continue to walk in the Lord’s way.
