Trusting in God
“For human beings this is impossible, but for God all things are possible.”
After the rich young man walks away, Jesus turns to His disciples with a sobering lesson: “Amen, I say to you, it will be hard for one who is rich to enter the kingdom of heaven.” His words leave them astonished. If those who seem blessed cannot save themselves, who can?
Jesus’ answer shifts the focus from human achievement to divine grace: “For human beings this is impossible, but for God all things are possible.” Eternal life is not a reward we earn but a gift we receive. No amount of wealth, success, or religious effort can secure it.
But Peter speaks up for himself and his companions: “We have given up everything and followed you. What will there be for us?” Like us, he wonders whether the sacrifice has been worth it. Jesus does not promise an easy life, but He assures His followers that whatever they surrender for His sake will be repaid beyond measure in the life of His Kingdom.
Every vocation asks us to let go of something. In monastic life, that surrender is visible. Yet every Christian is called to place security not in possessions, accomplishments, or even personal virtue, but in Christ alone. What seems impossible to us becomes possible when we entrust our lives to Him.

Perhaps the greatest obstacle to following Christ is not what we possess, but what possesses us. Today, ask our Lord to help you place your trust in Him.
