Tuesday of the Twenty-second Week in Ordinary Time
In the gospel today, there is a man with a demon inside of him. This demon is gutsy! I say this because the demon was not afraid to encounter Jesus, the Son of God. We all know who won that match. But it proves the lengths a demon will go to fight good. And the scary thing is that if he can go this far, in our weakness, he can take us to the same lengths. We must always be on guard and aware, that there are evils, gutsy evils, ready to do battle against good. How do keep the evil one from using us like he did this man in the gospel? We make ourselves holy, we pray, we do good, we love all, and we show mercy. In other words, we act as Christ. If we put on the Christ, the demon will be knocked out in the first round! We have to be mindful of this, we must always be on our guard. Paul speaks of this in the first reading, “let us not sleep…let us stay alert and sober.”
