Twenty-Ninth Sunday in Ordinary Time
“For the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
This is the last part of our gospel reading today, and it is very important! We must imitate Christ. We hear in our second reading, “For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who has similarly been tested in every way, yet without sin. So let us confidently approach the throne of grace to receive mercy and to find grace for timely help.”
Christ has been tested and tempted by the devil in the desert, and he overcame the devil and by being a great high priest who sacrifices himself on the cross. We imitate him by serving others since he served us—by taking our sins and nailing them to the cross.
Today or this week, I encourage you to serve someone—maybe the poor or a neighbor—in a charitable way. And don’t be afraid to show your Catholic faith.
