Wednesday of Holy Week
“Amen, I say to you, one of you will betray me.”
These are tough words to hear. They speak of the betrayal of a close friend, the betrayal of God. We have become very familiar with the story of Judas and his actions, affirming for ourselves that, “no, I would never do that, Lord, I would never betray you.” Yet, so often, we do betray Christ by our sin. That is what sin is, a betrayal. When we gossip, lie, and purposefully hurt another person, we do these things to Christ.
Think for a moment, Christ often speaks of his closeness with us, going so far to say he is with us always, that he and we are one; where Christ is there, I am. When I struggle Christ struggles; when I rejoice, Christ rejoices. It also means that when I hurt another person, I hurt Christ. Yet Christ remains with us.
Let us come to Christ, admitting our sins, that he may heal us as we approach our most holy days so that we may be reunited with him.
