Today's Mass Readings

I remember in the great movie “The Song of Bernadette,” Dr. Dozous asked the little girl Bernadette, who was suppose to be stupid, “’My dear, do you know what a sinner is?’ she replied back to me, ‘certainly monsieur, a sinner is one who loves evil.’ Mind you she said one who loves and not does!’”

In today’s gospel, Jesus says to some of the Jews following him, “”Amen, amen, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is a slave of sin. A slave does not remain in a household forever, but a son always remains. So if the Son frees you, then you will truly be free.” We can see this in the world today! People who think they are free are actually weighed down by the shackles of sin. Blind to either their pride, their ego, or whatever it may be, they are enslaved by sin because they love sin. The devil tricks them into playing his game, rejecting God, and doing whatever they want.

Praise God that we follow Him and that by the holy cross, he sets us free! Go to confession, and be wiped clean and start anew. God sees in your heart. Bring him into the sanctuary of your heart, and go to that great fountain of mercy in the sacrament of confession.
