Wednesday of the First Week in Ordinary Time
This week’s readings offer a powerful tool to the path that a Christian must take in our world to be a true witness of Christ. First, he or she must listen to Christ as the one voice of truth and encouragement. We can do this by daily reading of scripture. By listening to the saints who had lived their lives for Jesus. We can also learn to see Christ in each person we encounter.
Second, he or she is called to be a humble witness to the word. Strengthened by the Word they have listened to, they are to engage in humble acts of charity and of faith, offering theirs lives for the sake of others, so that, the world’s hatred might be transformed.
Today, we hear another step, that of being strengthened. Jesus Christ, as the reading to the Hebrews tell us, offered his body and blood for our sake, and we are to share in it. We are to share in the Eucharist, which is the body and blood of Jesus. This sharing brings us so close to Christ we receive his strength, his faith, his ability to transform. It also offers us the healing we need from living an authentic Christian life in the face of so many struggles.
Go to Jesus in the Eucharist. Be strengthened by him each and every day.
