Wednesday of the Fourth Week of Advent
David wants to build something solid for God, something impressive and worthy—a beautiful temple. Yet God redirects him. Instead of receiving a grand project, David receives a promise—a future he cannot see, a legacy that will unfold slowly and quietly through generations. This moment speaks directly to the tensions in your own life. You may want clarity, accomplishment, or the satisfaction of building something visible. But God may be offering something different, something slower and more interior, something that takes shape not in what you construct, but in who you become. Consider the places where you feel restless or eager to “fix” things. Could those be the very areas where God is inviting you to receive rather than achieve?
Zechariah’s Benedictus mirrors this lesson. After months of silence, he finally speaks — not to announce his own plans, but to recognize God’s unfolding work. His song looks back on God’s faithfulness and forward to a future he will not fully witness. It is a moment of surrender, a recognition that God’s purposes move beyond his own timeline or control.
This invites you to pause and look at the promises God has spoken into your life. Some may be unfolding slowly, almost imperceptibly. Some may require patience rather than action, trust rather than certainty. Where is God asking you to step back from your plans so that something deeper can take root? Where is God quietly shaping a future you cannot yet see?
On this final day before Christmas, you are invited to shift from building to receiving, from urgency to trust. God is preparing something enduring. Your task is to make room for it.
