Wednesday of the Second Week of Advent

Today's Mass Readings

When I was a little kid learning how to ride my bicycle, I was terrified of getting the training wheels removed from the bike. When dad took them off, my older brother helped to calm my fears by running beside me while I was on my bicycle. He had one hand on the handle bar and his other hand on my back. Some might think that what he did restricted my riding. Actually, by doing this he helped guide me and helped me keep my balance on the bicycle.

Jesus in our gospel today says, “take my yoke upon you.” Brothers and sisters, don’t see the yoke that Jesus wants you to put on you as a restraining and controlling instrument. It’s not about restricting you. It’s really about freeing you from all your fears and anxieties. Jesus’ yoke is about guiding you, and it’s about helping you keep your balance. St. Damasus, pray for us.
