Wednesday of the Second Week of Lent
“Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be handed over to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will condemn him to death, and hand him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and scourged and crucified, and he will be raised on the third day.” Jesus tells the disciples the mission that he has to do.
Jesus has for each of us a mission in life! For example, if we keep reading, he asks James and John if they are ready to drink from the chalice that he will drink, that same chalice of suffering and death that was given to him in the garden. The two disciples said “we are!” This also reminds me of St. Maximilian Kolbe, when Our Lady appeared to him, saying, “Raymond [St. Maximilian Kolbe’s baptismal name] will you like the white crown of purity or the red crown of martyrdom, [which mission do you want to fulfill]?” He responded, “BOTH!” Little Raymond as a child wanted to fulfill the mission of the Immaculata, so he chose both crowns so as not to disappoint her. What mission is God calling you to? Can you carve out some time for prayer and listen with the ear of your heart to listen to the voice of the Lord calling you to mission?
