Wednesday of the Seventeenth Week in Ordinary Time
In our spiritual journey, sometimes we move like we are running low on gas. Sometimes we don’t have motivation; sometimes, we get tired of doing the same things. Our gospel today speaks of joy. I read it and immediately pondered, “is my faith joyful?” And if it’s not, why not? I think this is something that we all need to ponder.
I remember my big brother Lupe giving me rides to school and noticing how the gas needle in his car always, ALWAYS, hovered around “E.” I found it funny when it came time to put in gas, he only put a couple of bucks of gas in (much more gas per dollar back then). He never filled up his tank, just let his car ride on “E.” I think we can do this with our faith. And what’s scary is that, when we keep our faith running on “E,” I think it’s easier to lose the faith. Don’t let this happen to you.
If you are running low right now, do something to find that joy again. Maybe it’s going on a retreat, maybe it’s saying some different prayers, maybe it’s going to confession. Whatever it may be, fill up the tank, and get that needle back to “Full.” Have that joy again!
