Wednesday of the Sixth Week of Easter

Today's Mass Readings

“When they [the Athenians] heard about the resurrection of the dead, some began to scoff, but others said, ‘We should like to hear you on this some other time.’ And so Paul left them. But some did join him, and became believers.”

There are three types of people in this passage. The first are the nonbelievers—the ones who scoffed at the idea of the resurrection then there are those who probably erected the altar “to an Unknown God.” Then there are the people who want to know more but are still comfortable living the way they want to live. Then there are the few believers who Paul, through the Holy Spirit, converted by preaching who the altar of the “Unknown God” was truly for!

Let me ask you, what does the altar in your heart look like? Is it decorated for the King of Kings with beautiful spiritual flowers, candles and with saints around it? Is it bare? Does it need to be cleaned so it can be adorned for the King? Or is there nothing? Have you turned away? The good news is that, if you are reading this, there is time to make the altar of your heart look beautiful—just how you and Jesus want it to look like! Invite him in your heart so he can help decorate it with you there. As you decorate, you can come to know him in an intimate way.
