Wednesday of the Twenty-second Week in Ordinary Time
In his first letter to the Corinthians, St. Paul tries to explain the difference between the spirit of the world and the Spirit of God; between the natural person and the spiritual person.
It is natural to live according to our senses, to act based on how things appear, sound, smell, taste, and feel. It is easy, and it works a lot of the time.
But everything in the natural world has deeper origins. Persons, especially, are made in the image and likeness of God. Thus St. Paul reminds the Corinthians that he, Apollos, and others are merely ministers of growth and grace, not the source.
St. Paul tries to wean us from milk (the spirit of the world) and feed us with solid food (the Spirit of God). His ministry leads solely to Christ.
