Wednesday of the Twenty-seventh Week in Ordinary Time

Today's Mass Readings

“Lord, teach us to pray.”

What a profound scene this is. Jesus’ disciples want to learn from him how to pray. Prayer is so essential to the Christian life. It is comparable to breathing for the body. Prayer is breathing for the soul. So many saints this month—Therese of Lisieux, Teresa of Avila, Faustina Kowalska, and Francis of Assisi—knew Jesus intimately in their prayer life. Unity is such a motivating force. A call to unity can rally people in almost any situation. Unity with God through prayer will strengthen you at any time. I invite you to consider attentively this phrase from the disciples. “Teach us to pray as John taught his disciples.”

St. Denis and Companions, Martyrs of Christ, pray for us.
